Research

I joined the Kanatzidis group as a postdoctoral research associate in June 2008. Here I am focusing on the production of Si thermoelectrics by doping with less expensive starting materials. The main objective of this work is to produce the thermoelectric materials based on a majority fraction of Si that has ZT value on a par with SiGe alloys. Parallel to this project I am also focusing the synthesis and properties of Rare earth based binary, ternary and quaternary intermetallics in order to study the interesting magnetic behavior.

During my PhD work at University of Muenster and NRW graduate school of chemistry, Germany I studied the magnetic, solid state NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopic studies of rare earth transition metal stannides and related compounds under the supervision of Prof. Rainer Pottgen. Later I moved to Max-Plank-Institute for chemical physics of solids (MPI-CPfS), Dresden, Germany for my post doctoral studies in the group of Prof. Yuri Grin. At MPI-CPfS, in addition to the conventional techniques I used Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) system for the synthesis and processing of intermetallics, thermoelectrics, chalcogenide etc.
