Research

I am currently working on the exploratory synthesis of rare earth chalcogenides for thermoelectric applications. My project focuses on the synthesis and characterization of ternary compounds with the Th3P4 structure type to take advantage of phonon scattering in order to increase the thermoelectric figure of merit, zT. Another aspect of my project is the structural determination and characterization of ternary distorted chalcogenides with incommensurate superstructures which would have a high conductivity and low thermal conductivity to hopefully product high zT.
