Our research employs a coordination chemistry approach to develop functional inorganic molecules and materials. Students in the Harris Group receive broad training in synthesis, by designing and preparing molecular complexes and coordination solids, as well as in physical methods, by investigating compounds using techniques such as X-ray crystallography, magnetometry, and spectroscopy.
Applicants must have expertise in synthetic inorganic chemistry and experience manipulating air-sensitive compounds using glovebox and Schlenk techniques. Experience with synthetic organic chemistry, in particular with ligand design and synthesis, is considered an advantage. Applicants should be familiar with typical characterization techniques for inorganic compounds, including X-ray crystallography, NMR, IR, UV-Vis, and EPR spectroscopies.
Applicants should send the following materials to dharris@northwestern.edu:
● curriculum vitae including complete list of publications
● statement of past research experience and research interests in the Harris Lab
In addition, applicants should be prepared to obtain letters of recommendation from three recommenders upon request.
