Research

The direct production of storable chemical fuel by an artificial photosynthetic system is an important potential avenue for sustainably meeting rising energy demands.

Significant challenges exist in the development of an efficient, low-cost, durable system that could, for example, couple water oxidation with the reduction of protons or carbon dioxide to produce hydrogen or carbon-based fuel.

My initial focus will be on integrating efficient light energy collection and charge separation materials with transition metal complexes used to catalyze reactions pertinent to solar fuel production.
